Nuclear Fission-A Brief Overview
What is nuclear fission? Nuclear fission is when an accelerated neutron is shot
at a Uranium-235 nucleus. The nucleus then breaks into two fragments which are both about equal to half of the original mass.
Along with these two fragments, two or three more neutrons are released. When these neutrons find more U-235 nuclei, the fission
process starts again. This is called a chain reaction.
